As part of their A-Level English studies, candidates will study poetry, prose and drama. Exams vary depending on the exam board, but the ability to write a clear and structured essay is essential.
French
A Level French assess all four aspects of communication: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Candidates must master their comprehension and grammar and they must express themselves clearly.
Results
The majority of candidates achieve an A or A* in their exams.
English
IB English or International Baccalaureate English is examined by an Individual Oral (IO), an HL essay and 2 written papers: Paper 1 tests unseen analysis; Paper 2 tests set texts, such as Othello and Brave New World.
French
IB French or International Baccalaureate French is examined by an Individual Oral (IO) exam and two written papers: Paper 1 tests written production; Paper 2 tests set listening and reading comprehension.
Results
All candidates have received 7s in their exams.
English
Pre-U English examines students' grasp of drama, poetry, prose and unseen texts. The most difficult of these is usually unseen analysis, which takes quite a bit longer to prepare for than the others.
French
Pre-U French (by CIE) assesses speaking, writing, reading and listening. The exams demand a high level of grammatical mastery, and students are advised to leave nothing to chance on the day!

All candidates have received distinctions in their exams.
